2 Top Cryptocurrencies to Buy in 2026: Bitcoin and Hyperliquid (2026)

In the current crypto bear market, it's crucial to discern which cryptocurrencies possess genuine value and which are merely fleeting trends. Amidst the turmoil, two coins stand out as particularly compelling investments: Bitcoin and Hyperliquid. While Bitcoin's fixed supply and halving events have historically supported its value, the market's volatility and changing holder demographics could impact its future returns. However, its fundamental strength remains unshaken, and its long-term price bias remains positive. Personally, I find Bitcoin's consistent performance and its ability to recover from bear markets particularly fascinating. Despite the short-term price fluctuations, the coin's supply policies and its resilience make it an attractive investment for those with patience. On the other hand, Hyperliquid, a decentralized trading platform, offers perpetual futures and a unique value capture mechanism. The platform routes 99% of its trading fees into buying back its native token, Hype, thereby creating a supply sink. This strategy has consumed over $2 billion in value since its launch in January 2025, and $176.2 million in Q1 of 2026 alone. What makes this particularly fascinating is the platform's expansion into new markets, including prediction markets and tokenized versions of stocks, commodities, and international currencies. This expansion could increase its fee revenue and token buybacks over the long run. However, there are some concerns. A large portion of Hype's possible supply is yet to circulate, and the pace of token buybacks must outpace the rate of dilution from these unlocks for the investment to be successful. Additionally, Hyperliquid's competition is strong, and moving fast to contest its market share. Regulators have approved Kalshi's first U.S.-regulated Bitcoin perpetual future, and Robinhood Markets is expected to follow. If trading volume migrates to these regulated futures trading venues, Hyperliquid's lead in decentralized perpetual futures contract volumes might be harder to maintain. In conclusion, these two coins are the only cryptocurrencies I'm comfortable buying right now, but that could change. If Hyperliquid's buyback policy is weakened, I'll strongly consider selling it. For Bitcoin, there's not much that would force me to sell it, and it'd take some serious turbulence to stop me from wanting to accumulate it over time. These investments are not without risks, but their fundamental strengths and unique value capture mechanisms make them particularly compelling in the current market environment.
